This year's NCSL International Workshop and Symposium took place July 19th through the 23rd in Grapevine, TX, which brought together measurement industry professionals and thought leaders under one roof. The theme for the 2015 NCSL International Workshop & Symposium focused on “Measurement Science and the Quality of Life", which emphasized the role measurement science plays on modern innovations.
The show featured three keynote speakers: Dr. Chris Greer from NIST, Steve Russell from Duke Energy, and Amy Young, a filmmaker and technical consultant for the entertainment industry. All three speakers spoke on their experiences and how measurement science will play a future role in the manufacturing, health care, energy and entertainment industries.
Among the various events held at the symposium, attendees had the opportunity to sit in on technical
The exhibition hall at the NCSL International Workshop and Symposium featured the leading measurement organizations from all over the world. From pressure, flow, current, & voltage calibration to high accuracy instrumentation, these manufacturers chose this year's event to showcase new product releases to the attendees. A new technology trend that many exhibitors featured was “reference modularity”. Regardless of the measurement modality, modularity within a calibration or control device gives the user the ability to choose the reference that best meets the needs of a process or calibration at a facility.
At the 2015 NCSL International Workshop and Symposium Setra launched the MicroCal, an advanced modular pressure calibrator. The MicroCal features high accuracy low differential pressure modules used for calibrating pressure transducers, gauges and switches for pharmaceutical cleanrooms, hospitals and other critical environments. The calibrator features an onboard pressure generation system, developed through a NASA and Setra partnership, that can generate a stable pressure down to 0.0002” W.C. The pressure generation and modularity of the MicroCal enables customers to quickly generate traceable calibrations while maximizing test uncertainty ratios for the devices during installation.
