Building automation systems (BAS) are increasingly common in a variety of environments to make HVAC systems as efficient as possible and reduce the need for in-person monitoring of pressure in each area. The value of a BAS relies heavily on a number of components seamlessly integrated together. Pressure transducers that conduct intensely accurate measurements work in tandem with room pressure monitors presenting real-time data and raising alarms if something goes wrong. Calibration equipment ensures building automation tools work smoothly and accurately without the need to oversee them. A BAS can be used in many applications, from filter monitoring to green buildings to zone control in critical environments.

Introducing Setra’s new Power Meter! Available mid-2019, the new Power Meter is making its debut at AHR 2019.
Setra Systems, Inc. will be exhibiting at the 2018 AHR Expo in Chicago, IL from January 22 to January 24. This year at AHR, Setra is excited to showcase several new monitoring and sensing solutions to our customers, adding to its extensive line of premium HVAC sensing products.
Energy management is a growing practice among companies that operate large buildings, campuses, and other complex facilities. Successful energy management requires detailed information on how energy is being used. However, this valuable information is not available in facilities being actively monitored. For effective energy management, facility engineers need to understand exactly how and where energy is being consumed on their properties.
HVAC and refrigeration systems represent between a quarter and a third of total electricity consumption in an average commercial building. Chillers are responsible for over 40% of that demand, making up between 10-12% of a building’s total electricity usage and presenting an opportunity for cost savings. So why are HVAC chillers rarely optimized for efficiency?
The goal of any commercial property owner is to attract tenants while also still being profitable. Operating a large building often means having a lot of expenses and other overhead costs, whether they be for maintenance, repairs, utilities, or the multitude of other expenditures any business could incur.
Like most businesses, hospital administrations constantly look for ways to improve their bottom line. One of the most effective ways a hospital facility manager can help is by lowering building operating costs and running their building more efficiently. But because healthcare facilities are extremely sophisticated and specialized buildings, this task is often easier said than done.
User-side energy submetering is becoming increasingly popular in new commercial construction and renovation projects alike. The latest advanced LEED certification requires operator-owned submeters to be installed in high consumption areas and facilitate continuous tracking of total consumption for an entire structure.
The BACnet community is proud to announce that Setra has become the latest company to join BACnet International as a Silver member. Setra, founded in 1967, designs and develops one of the most comprehensive portfolios of sensors in the world. It has nearly 50 years of experience in critical applications in many industries, and is part of the Fortive Corporation, a Fortune 500 science and technology leader.
What Are You Monitoring?
One critical consideration when searching for a proper power meter is to determine what you're measuring. Is the monitored load signal-phase, split-phase or three-phase? What voltage/current ranges are going to be monitored?
If you're interested in a power meter for residential or light commercial applications, then typically a single or split-phase meter would be the best cho
